Ghostrider Book Sketches
While I went into the live-action end of filmmaking, my architecture college classmate Erica Hornung decided to move to Los Angeles and get into computer animation. She found herself becoming an expert on a process called “matchmoving”, which essentially allows animated elements to be accurately incorporated into shot footage. She became such an expert at the craft that she wrote a book and taught the subject for a while.
While she was writing the book she needed some sketches to represent shots from the film Ghostrider, as obtaining permission from the studio to use actual pre-production shots was proving difficult. To avoid any lingering copyright issues I had to rely on descriptions of the shots used by the matchmovers and just created a few rough sketches, which was all she needed since that’s apparently how they accomplished some of the work at that time.
